Installation

This guide walks you through downloading, installing, and verifying Login AlertX v4.0 on Windows and Linux machines. Administrator or root privileges are required to register the background monitoring daemon.

Installing on Windows

You can install Login AlertX on Windows using either the direct installer or the official Microsoft Store package.

Option A: Direct Windows Installer (Recommended)
  1. Download the Installer: Download the latest 64-bit installer from loginalertx.com/download.
  2. Run Setup: Double-click the downloaded setup file. When prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to grant administrative permissions.
  3. Follow the Setup Wizard:
    • License Agreement: Review and accept the terms.
    • Installation Directory: Default path is C:\Program Files\Login AlertX.
    • Complete Installation: Click Install, then click Finish. Login AlertX will launch automatically in your system tray.
Option B: Microsoft Store (MSIX)

Ideal for corporate environments and users who prefer managed auto-updates.

  1. Open the Login AlertX Microsoft Store Page.
  2. Click Install / Get. Windows will automatically download, verify, and register the application.

Installing on Linux (Desktop & Headless Server)

Login AlertX on Linux operates natively through a lightweight systemd daemon and the loginalertx Command Line Interface (CLI).

Step 1: Install the Package

For Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint (.deb):

sudo dpkg -i loginalertx_4.0.0_amd64.deb
sudo apt-get install -f  # Resolves any missing system libraries

For RHEL, Rocky Linux, Fedora, SUSE (.tar.gz):

tar -xzf loginalertx_4.0.0_linux_x64.tar.gz
cd loginalertx
sudo ./install.sh
Step 2: Configure & Start the Daemon

Run the interactive terminal wizard to set up your alert channels (Email, WhatsApp, Telegram, Webhooks) and license key:

# 1. Run interactive configuration wizard
sudo loginalertx configure

# 2. Start and enable background systemd service
sudo loginalertx start

What Gets Installed

On Windows
  • Login AlertX App: Desktop management interface accessible via the Windows system tray.
  • LoginAlertXService: Background Windows Service that monitors event channels continuously, even before user logon.
  • Local SQLite Storage: Encrypted offline outbox and 1-year searchable event history.
On Linux
  • loginalertx CLI: Terminal binary located in /usr/bin/loginalertx.
  • loginalertx.service: Background systemd unit configured to auto-start on system boot.
  • PAM & Journal Interceptor: Zero-overhead event listener for SSH, console, and sudo sessions.

Verifying the Installation

Windows Verification
  1. System Tray: Look for the Login AlertX shield icon in the taskbar notification area (bottom-right). Double-click to open settings.
  2. Service Status: Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Verify that Login AlertX Service is listed with status Running.
Linux Verification

Check the service status and health via terminal:

sudo loginalertx status

Or inspect the systemd daemon directly:

sudo systemctl status loginalertx.service

Uninstalling Login AlertX

Uninstall on Windows
  1. Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
  2. Locate Login AlertX, click the menu icon (...), and select Uninstall.

Complete Reset: You can also run the official Cleanup Utility to automatically stop running processes, remove services, and clear local caches (%AppData%\LoginAlertX).

Uninstall on Linux

Stop the service and remove the package:

# Debian / Ubuntu / Mint
sudo dpkg -r loginalertx

# Or run the built-in uninstall command
sudo loginalertx uninstall
