Setting Email Configuration
After installing Login AlertX, set up your email so the app can send you login alerts. Double-click the Login AlertX icon in your system tray to open the app, then go to the Setup tab.
Login AlertX supports two ways to connect your sending email account:
Option 1: Sign in with Google (Recommended for Gmail users)
This is the easiest and most secure option. No password is stored — Login AlertX uses a secure access token that it manages automatically.
- In the Setup tab, select Sign in with Google as the authentication method.
- Click Authenticate. Your default web browser will open and ask you to sign in to your Google account.
- Grant Login AlertX permission to send emails on your behalf, then return to the app. You should see a confirmation that authentication was successful.
- In the Recipient Email field, enter the email address where you want to receive login alerts. This can be the same Gmail address or any other email.
- Click Save Settings.
- Click Send Test Email to verify everything is working. Check your inbox (and spam/junk folder) for the test alert.
Option 2: SMTP (Any Email Provider)
Use SMTP if you prefer to connect using a password, or if you use an email provider other than Gmail.
- In the Setup tab, select SMTP as the authentication method.
- Fill in your outgoing mail server details:
- SMTP Server: Your provider’s outgoing mail server (e.g.
smtp.gmail.comfor Gmail,smtp.mail.yahoo.comfor Yahoo) - Port:
587for TLS or465for SSL — check your email provider’s help page if unsure - Username: Your full email address (e.g.
[email protected]) - Password: Your email password, or an App Password if your account has two-factor authentication enabled
- SMTP Server: Your provider’s outgoing mail server (e.g.
- Enter the Recipient Email address for alerts.
- Click Save Settings, then Send Test Email to verify.
💡 Gmail + SMTP tip: Google blocks standard password sign-in for third-party apps. If you want to use Gmail with SMTP, generate an App Password in your Google Account under Security > 2-Step Verification > App passwords. Alternatively, use Sign in with Google above to avoid this entirely.
Tips
- Use a dedicated email account for sending alerts to keep them organised and separate from your personal inbox.
- The recipient email (where you receive alerts) can be completely different from the sending email.
- If you don’t receive the test email, check your spam/junk folder and ensure your firewall allows outbound connections on port 587 or 465.
- Your email credentials are encrypted and stored only on your PC — they are never sent to Login AlertX servers.
